Dean Koorey is a freelance copywriter and Content Manager at the Australian Writers’ Centre.
He originally trained as a graphic designer before working as an Art Director for worldwide advertising agency Draft FCB in Auckland, New Zealand. While there, he helped create many award-winning campaigns for print, radio, online, billboards and television. (And played a lot of pool.)
He moved to Australia in 2005 and set himself up as a copywriter on the NSW South Coast, famously cold calling hundreds of design agencies to secure his first clients. Since then, he has crafted clever words for a range of businesses large and small – often while drinking just one coffee for hours on end in the same café.
One particular niche of copywriting has seen him create hundreds of real estate listings for agencies and master builders – copy for everything from show homes to studio flats to country mansions. He shares his knowledge of this area in his AWC online course, Real Estate Copywriting.
As well as being one of the brains behind MOJO MONTH and the successful Furious Fiction monthly creative writing competition, Dean also writes the popular weekly Q&A columns in the AWC newsletter each week and has been known to guest co-host the So you want to be a writer podcast with Valerie Khoo.
